Theology Lesson FOR KIDS #2:

God SPEAKS to US through His Word!

Verses to Consider: 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13, 2 Peter 1:20-21

(If you missed the introduction post please click HERE
This will give you all the information about Theology Thursdays FOR KIDS!!)

What a joy it is to know and embrace the scripture, God's word, as God actually speaking TO US!  2 Timothy 3:16  says, "All scripture is breathed out by God."  Stop for just a moment and speak that bible verse out loud with your hand about an inch away from your mouth.  Feel your breath??  That is what God's word is to us!  God breathing, saying, speaking his words to our ears!

Men "carried along by the Holy Spirit" spoke and wrote God's word!  1 Thessalonians 2:13 says, "And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the Word of God..."  Then 2 Peter 1:20-21 says, "No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation.  For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."  Dr. Ware shares these thoughts, "God, by His Spirit, worked in these writers so that these "men spoke from God" as they wrote the books that we now have in our bibles...unlike any other books, God worked by His Spirit to make sure that what they wrote would be exactly what He wanted."

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
 2 Timothy 3:16-17

I love this comment from Dr Ware in response to 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "Because the bible is what it is (it is the Word God), it can do what it does (it is profitable to help us grow and be equipped for every good work).  But if the bible were not really the Word of God, we could not be sure that it would work in these positive ways to help us grow.  What the Bible is (the Word of God) enables it to do what it does (help us to grow)."

Specific Ideas for Teaching Lesson Two to Children:
  • Write a letter to your child and have them read it! Explain that God's word is like a letter written to them!
  • Help your child understand Timothy 3:16 , "...Breathed out..." by feeling their own breath while speaking aloud.
  • Share with your child how God showed His goodness to us by giving us His Word!
  • Read your bible together as a family daily to show that the word of God is valued in your home.
More General Ideas for Teaching Theology to Children...
  • Don't be afraid to challenge your child to THINK!  In a world where children have many thoughtless and effortless tasks (video games, TV, and computer time) challenge your child to THINK through great truths of the gospel!
  • Take your time to soak up truth!  Don't rush through a lesson, allow time, opportunities, and study to help resonate a specific truth within them (and us!!).
  • Begin an individual journal or family journal about the theological truths learned, review it regularly.
  • Pray that the Lord would give you wisdom and understanding as you seek to honor Him in the teaching and training of your children.
  • Pray that God would open the eyes of your child's HEART that they would EMBRACE the gospel not just KNOW the content intellectually (see this related post).
  • Talk about these truths DAILY and when teachable moments present themselves take advantage of them!
