June Toddler Homeschool

Schools OUT! Right? Not in this house!! I think year round schooling is great.  I plan to incorporate year round schooling in my home to keep a routine.  This will also give us some flexibility in our schedule throughout the year!

Our June Todddler Home School focus will be FARM!  I have lots of farm items and a very nice local farm to visit with my family.  The above picture displays the many farm related books that I will be reading throughout the month to my toddler.  If you read "May Toddler Homeschool" I indicated that one of my goals was to read a story a day.  This has been going very well.  My little girl now knows when it's story time she needs to stop, sit, and listen!  I'm looking forward to when she will be bringing me books to read but for now she is too busy to sit for more then one!

Many of us probably have the "little people farm" I found this farm at a local Mom2Mom sale.  This will be a great play item for our farm focus!

My toddler uses a booster seat at my kitchen table.  Often I use my i-pad with her for learning while she is eating or having a snack.  Here I have her looking at the book "Barnyard Banter" by Denise Fleming (perfect toddler appropriate book) and watching the read aloud song of the story (found on you tube).

We have continued to focus on a letter a week (although I do incorporate learning all the letters through books, songs, and puzzles throughout our week as well)!  One new item I have added is a coloring page of the uppercase and lowercase letter.  We color the page together then I like to hang her work up so she can see it or show daddy to make her feel proud of her good work at school!
To incorporate learning and reviewing all the letters I have a wonderful Melissa and Doug ABC Art puzzle that I keep out for my daughter to play with.  Occasionally, I pair this puzzle with the i-pad and play the  ABC phonic song (found on you tube).  This song is on our favorites and we watch it often.  My toddler is just beginning to sing along with most of the song!
Puzzles are an activity we do daily! Pictured above is a farm related puzzle.  While doing the puzzle I say the animal name and the sound the animal makes.  My toddler (25 months) knows all of the animals and most of the sounds.
The last item I have added to our homeschool for June is my "new student's" chair!!  My baby boy is almost 3 months old and he has been joining us at school!  I read books to him and show him the farm animals an say their names/sounds.  I also move the animals slowly around to strengthen his horizontal and vertical vision tracking skills.

I feel so blessed to to teach two children now!  Thank you Jesus!!

These are just some of the activities we will be focusing on this month!  Please check back each month as I feature new items added to our toddler home school!  I count it a privilege to be my children's teacher!  What a joy it is to see them learn and grow!

Happy Homeschooling!

  1. Jessica, thank you so much for the videos, they are very nice. I'll definitely use them! And Barnyard Bunter is great, I haven't seen that one before. You are great! Good luck with your summer plans! I am more cautious on introducing new stories. It looks like they might make Camilla uncomfortable at times. She is in the constant move, but she loves her books, asks me to read them and "reads" them herself: so cute! I do introduce new books, of course, but have to read the new one several times, and "play" with the story before she gets it :)
